I'm usually not an "oh, poor me" kind of person, but seriously, enough is enough.
There are two ways to look at every situation and I am trying my hardest to look on the bright side.
My new typical response for "how are things?" is: Life has been better but it could be a lot worse.
I'm grateful for what I have. I may have lost something a few Mondays ago, but this last Monday I nearly lost the person that means more to me than anything in the whole world.
I have been thankful every second since that I didn't.
Heal up my sweet love...

Hang in there Marni, things will turn around soon.
Heal up quick Chris, and you two let us know if there is anything we can do to help you out.
Oh man, what happened?
Chris was in an avalanche on Monday on Mt. Meeker. Swept him and a partner down the mountain -- both of them (thankfully) ending up only with broken ankles. They had to hike back to the car for seven hours like that. Ouch!
Wow, they're pretty lucky that's all that happened, thought it seems weird to use the word lucky in that context. I can't even imagine hiking for seven hours with broken ankles - those guys are TOUGH.
Were there recent snows up there that caused the snow to be unstable. Man, you never know what you're going to get up in the high country, I guess.
Tell him I wish him a speedy recovery.
